Day 1 – Door Knock
Day 1 started in a quiet, muddy pasture in small town Texas. Shawn and Shonna Speer of Royce Builders met with the team from “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” in a remote location near East Bernard to plan for the excitement that was to come. Ty Pennington went to the Kubena family residence to scream the famous words “Good Morning Kubena family!!!”

After the surprise, Shawn and Shonna had a chance to meet and hug the Kubenas for the first time. Shonna summed up the experience, “When we heard their story, we all fell in love with this family. Meeting them this morning made us fall in love with them all over again. What an amazing family!”
Later in the day, Shawn, Shonna and the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” crew went to meet Tara Kubena and her mother Monica, at the Ronald McDonald house where Tara is recovering from her illness. It was an uplifting experience for everyone involved. Shawn Speer was amazed to learn about the lengths to which Monica has gone to take care of her child. Shawn said, “We could never give back to this mother, what she has given to her children.” Make sure to tune in to find out more about this wonderful woman and her perseverance.
